  • ...and for my next trick...

next project will be sewing some emergency blankets to the window-side of the curtains so they will act as solar curtains without the dough. i finally decided how to do it. see, was afraid if i sewed silver material (emergency blanket) to curtain fabric, the blanket would shred. still have to buy some $2 emergency blankets, but once i do, i will just iron a hem all around the curtains, so the eb will be sandwiched between the folded edges of the curtain.

i cooked the steak on sunday for lunch. i couldn't believe i grilled it outside and it came out awesomely marvelous. usually i don't cook too much steak, still slowly learning how to cook it properly. it was seasoned with sea salt, pepper and worestershire right before popping it on the grill. i just waited for it to get those grilllines decently dark (and the uncooked meat on top was turning a little brown but very juicey still). flipped it over. waited the same. just enough pink inside and just bursting with juices. i was floored.

saw the pirates movie on saturday...i was right, i shouldn't have watched the e! show, what i didn't know, guessed within about 5 minutes of the movie. johnny depp was good in it. me and hm were discussing why he was the only pirate with eyeliner. and then i was like, now why do they need eyeliner? hm suggested because of the sun (like a football (ps) player).

spiderman (mtv) was cool. found an outdoor info site. attempted to play runescape. played naval command at yahoo with hm.

not finished with that 2-layer shirt yet. i was taking some step by step photos, but managed to miss a step. not using a pattern, stumbling through the process. can't believe i haven't ruined this see-thru peacock material, yet. instructions further below.

    1.2.

    3.4.

    5.6.

    7.

    1. i used one of the loose practice shirts for a pattern for the white undershirt. the fold in the white material was at the top, so the shoulders are connected (see pic 3).
    2. make score lines in the curves of the neck and arms. i then pull what will be the hem where it needs to go, iron it, then sew it down. notice i adjusted the shoulder strap a little cuz it was too wide, just made it go straight up from the armhole.
    3. shows how the top is connected.
    4. the outside material. i sewed the peacock material into a tube with the seem being the back seem. then flattened that out and went back over the ditch/center with a zigzag. hem the neck, top-shoulder sleeve whispies, area (this is where i forgot to grab another photo)
    5. place peacock material (inside out) inside the white material (which was also inside out). pin. sew shoulder straps to top of peacock material.
    6. mark and cut armhole/sleave whispy area (vague white chalk line)
    7. the green dots represent where 6. was cut. the white dots represent the outline sewn on 2nd layer to match but be slightly looser than the white underlayer. the blue marked section is the refuse which will cut away and be hemmed again (these materials unravel). picture shown is working on the left side. after the peacock material has been sewn, move it out of the way and sew the side edges of the white material together (they are already sewn and turned inside out in picture #7)

and this is where i have stopped. the bottom needs to be trimmed and hemmed. the sleaves are not completely cut out yet (they will be the wispy part, slit-top sleaves that hang down), and will need to be hemmed. the armhole will be hemmed also. so right now it's looking like the two materials will only be connected at the shoulders. #4 is a good picture of the peacock material

  • Found this quote on Yahoo:

"Keith Richards has been a hero forever and ever. It wasn't an imitation. It was more kind of a salute to him."

-- JOHNNY DEPP telling The Boston Globe how the Rolling Stone guitarist provided inspiration of Depp's buccaneer character in "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl."

I KNEW Jack Sparrow reminded me of someone!

    Yes, the steak rocked

  • you're always so darn nifty with everything.  screw martha stewart!

  • wow, you really enjoy the projects you are creating and I noticed you like to cook as well.

hehe, and if you are asking if my real name is Dawn then yes; but if you are asking if it is Vudu_dawN then no. Hehehe, so your name would also be either Dawn or Vudu_dawN, I'm gonna guess the first one :)

  • I don't understand about the eyeliner.  I don't know why football players wear it either.    I leave the grilling to Brian maybe one day I'll learn.

  • I lament the fact that I *have* to have a pattern to sew. Even then it gets scary sometimes. Lucky you. You're so much better at the sewing than I am.

Have been scared to try grilling steak because I've never grilled before. You've prompted me to think that I just need to jump in and do it. After all the rain passes....

And horsey might come home with me on Friday. Yay me!

  • The solar curtain - emergency blanket thing is a totally cool idea.  brilliant.

  • Johnny Depp and eyeliner.  Isn't that fabulous?  Glad you enjoyed.  Way to be "on point", Joy!

Too bad you don't live in Houston!  I would recruit you to make me some cool Stevie Nick's gypsy outfits.  I can't even sew a button on right.  I've tried.  As soon as I wash my clothes, the damn thing starts pulling apart again!  Drat!

  • I have this secret for cooking steaks that blow everyone away ... didn't come up with it myself, I learned from an old pro ... a carpenter who used to BBQ on the worksite ... he would put day-old stale beer into a sprayer, and spray the meat down, then sprinkle on Canadian steak seasoning (basically salt, pepper, and some other things).  No matter the quality of the meat, the beer is a perfect tenderizer.  I have no idea why, but it works great.  You can also spray the meat as it's cooking.  YUM YUM!

  • well SOB!!  I had a nice long ol comment and I locked up!!

    fk it

  • lmao... Last time I was here I got shuddered...

Thought I was free of that...... then ..shudder...

kick yer mans ass and make him give ya some new code.///

  • eyeliner footballers wear it over in america??? i knew NFL was kinda gay but they wear eyeliner also ... shitska!!

  • Whoa!  That emergency blanket backing sounds like an excellent idea.  I want to know how well it works.  I just got a chance to read your back logs and it sounds like you have been busy.  Now that Jes is gone I am really getting to know the little guy.  I hope I am not spoiling him.  He is really doning much better since putting him on the lactose free formula and he laughs so much more and crys so much less.  I can't wait to come visit you and your hm.  Traveling is hard work with T working while we move but we are acclimating.

Whoa again!  Sorry to ramble about me on your comment.  It just sounds like you are filling your life with wonderful things and I am glad to hear good things even with the hassely things.

    Love and miss you much.

p.s.  the sewing tips are going to come in handy once I get back to bush.  I need to fill my time with stuff like that.  That is why I bought the sewing machine and I got distracted.  I need to get focused.

Muh and Hugs to the D, C, HM, and big ones to you.

  • I saw Big Brother tonight and I thought of the whole gang together.  It was almost like being home.

  • yeah, well, i can skip the assholes being in the whole gang... (assholes being non-supporters of keeping up with plans (and not apologizing when they fuck up) and talking behind peoples' backs). if the group would have continued in a positive curve of learning and expanding it wouldn't have all turned to shit with he said she said crap and i can't believe i wasted a portion of my time trying to be friends with people who obviously had better things to do(like pick on me for sticking someone to what they say or promise).
