something amazing...the dinnerplate dahlia bloomed, but some creature is leaving slimy soil-like stuff all over the buds
so, that means that only one lily bulb came up. it's getting et by bugs, but hasn't died yet, so i look forward to a bloom come summer! didn't realise how much space the dahlias needed. about 2 feet in diameter. been plucking off leaves that are turning to lace from all the nibbles. oh yeah!!! and thanks spidey, i planted the ...um... caladiums? planted them in the back. look forward to them popping up and adding much needed colour to the backyard! and i was told the pictures are fine, anyone else out there getting my pictures too bright (like they show up on my monitor), or are they fine? if it's just me, you know what that means, time for a new monitor!!!
i found this cool place... hometalkers. discussion forum, found it after doing a search trying to figure out what's going on wiff my zucchini's.discovered yesterday, that tender blooms are edible! i think i have kind of decided to harvest the mutant zucchini and the largest zucchini. i am so concerned that they will rot just staying there.
thought we would do pasta or soy taco tonight, but hankerin for baked potatoes instead...not to mention i forgot to pull soytaco out freezer, lemme do that now.
i'd also kept forgetting to plant that pineapple. finally did it today, hope it takes!!!
i have been sucking down too much coffee lately, but it's soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good.
guess i'll attempt to clean the windows for the remainder of the tint to go up. can't wait to see what i'll be doing this weekend, besides another family event on sunday
must check out aboriginal snake design in one of my books so i can decorate some of those wooden snakes. must clean tools off old kitchen counter so we'll be ready for the new counter. oh yeah, gotta look for a sink this weekend.
i'll be back on if some amazing happens, otherwise have a great weekend, see ya on ...um... sometime next week

Hope you have a GGGRRREEAAATT weekend
mmm mutant zuchinni... all we need now are some of those three-legged chickens to go with it!

about your gardening, i might be able to answer some questions. i dont know everything by any means, but i've learned a thing or two. i always use the product Seven for any bugs i see. it takes care of pretty much anything. about the potatoes...watch them for potato bugs (if you get them then treat with the seven) the plants will bloom and eventually the potatoes will start to grow. actually...well, back home we'd plant potatoes in late april...by june/july you could have some *early* potatoes, which would be smaller and not very thick skins. the plants will brown and die eventually, and that's your cue to dig. dig a wide circle around them so you dont cut into any taters, otherwise you'll have to use them right away.
did i even answer anything there?
anyways, good luck!
I'm glad to hear you are on an up swing.
That's a pretty flower and it looks just fine on my monitor. Hope the caladiums grow quickly. Last year it seemed to take forever for mine to pop up.
Sounds like all of your plants are doing great. I can't wait to come see all of them and the house. I'm glad I am able to keep up with what you are doing and one day I will use my log more.
Hmmmmm...Im thinkin burgers on the grill will be good enough for tonight.
Tomorrow maybe some chicken wangs and a HUGE salad.
Have a great weekend girlie, and your lizard wizard too
I got 5% Sevin Dust to use on my flowers and all. From what I understand it works really well, so even though I haven't used it....what JKjoker said. Everyone I know says to use that stuff.
Got an e-mail back from Mom about the zucchini. Here's what she said: "Seeds are inside so am not sure who said what. Taking the flower off a veggie will not really affect it. In Wisconsin many were proud of their huge 8-10- 12 " zuchini veggies--- the bigger they get the pulpier they get- but it's fine for making bread because it's grated anyway. To cook, I like them smaller- somewhere between 5 and 8 " long. The seeds are smaller and the flesh is tighter and not so pulpy. In WI they used the large for baking and the small for cooking. Haven't ever seen one 'go to seed'."
She said some other stuff, but it was all basics about cooking that you already know. Not sure why she decided to tell me about it either, but moms are moms I guess. That reminds me - totally forgot when I sent the e-mail about the other stuff. Yes, rhubarb can be used for bread. I've seen recipes for it at Allrecipes.com.
When i was 15 I picked pineapple on maui for about 7 months. It's crazy how long it takes to get a fruit! Nothing beats a fresh pineapple though.not even coffee ... mmmmm homer like coffee ~(_8^(|)
that is an awesome bloom there! i think calladiums require a lot of shade..
sounds like your flowers have slugs? ( the dirty trail?)
fight the good fight! kill the bugs!
i'm about to plant 75 trees!! my back hurts just thinking about it :~)
Oh coffee.......drool. I'm trying to get off of the stuff as we speak. I can't take the caffeine withdrawl anymore.
Since I've got some relations out in the country...
I've had several different blooms to eat, including watermelon. It's sometimes amazing what we end up eating! No road kill jokes, LoL!
From what I can tell, the pics look fine.
Is there anything from me that could elleviate confusion?
nope, nada
